Weekend Away! Monterey Bay Aquarium
Last weekend, the hubs and I decided we needed to get the heck outta town. I've been really kinda... mopey? or more like tired of the same routine of: get up, go to work, get home, eat dinner, watch TV, go to bed, repeat. We decided to go on a short roadtrip up the coast to a place I've been wanting to go to since before we moved here, Monterey Bay Aquarium. Most of my photos are from the aquarium, we had such an amazing time there. I absolutely loved being there and seeing so much cool stuff. The aquarium is huge and we also had fun wandering the little town of Monterey.
Above: The Jellies! I loved them so very much! They are just constantly in motion. Everything is actually very hard to capture because nothing every stops moving, even just slightly drifting along. The jellies are just so freaking cool. Some of them are extremely soft and delicate, some of them are translucent, and some glow in the dark! It's amazing.
Above: Just some random snippets and sights around the aquarium. The colors are beautiful! These pictures are NOT enhanced, just cropped to fit. The colors are incredibly vibrant.
As you can see above, the aquarium is right up against the bay and interacts with it. They even have classes for kids to learn how to scuba dive in that cove between the buildings. In the bay there are tons of boaters and people exploring. Next time we go I'd definitely rent a boat and wander around the bay.
The puffins were among my favorites in the whole aquarium. They are just so cute! They are also constantly ruffling there feathers and they are so fast in the water! I was amazed by them. I stood there for a LONG time just fascinated by them.
On the way back down to LA we decided to drive along the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway). It basically doubles the driving time but it is SO worth it for the views. That photo above is somewhere between Monterey and Big Sur and it is completely untouched. It looks just liked that. It didn't smell as nice... but that's ok. The other benefit of driving down the coast was a spot that we discovered on another trip once and that is this beach with a huge population of Elephant Seals.
They are so interesting to watch! Those two in the top left photo were fighting (or playing?) in the water the entire time we were there. Then those guys in the middle photo got up and started fighting until one of the bigger guys came in and broke it up. So crazy! The ones on the right just made me laugh. I love their faces!
I hope you enjoyed seeing this little mini vacation of ours. We definitely had fun and it helped break up the monotony of life that we've been feeling. Have you done anything like this lately? What do you do to keep yourself from falling victim to the routine of life?
If you are ever in the area, definitely check out the aquarium and drive along the PCH. That should be on your bucket lists!
