BoxyCharm December 2014 - Unboxing and Review
BoxyCharm is a subscription box that I've been very curious about, so when I saw the opportunity on Brandbacker, I applied for it immediately. I've tried just about every subscription box out there: Birchbox, Ipsy, Glossybox, Little Black Bag, Julep, etc. In the end, I've cancelled all of them and frequently skip on my Julep box (the only one I still am technically subscribed to). While I do think that many of them are worth the price, I ended up with way too many mini products that just end up in a drawer. The fact is, I hate mini products/samples. Luckily, BoxyCharm feels the same way about them (or I assume based on their business model). Their subscription boxes always contain 4 full-sized products and usually another deluxe size sample or bonus product. Everything in my December box was makeup-centric and contained no skincare, which I was extremely ok with.
Above is the list of contents in December's box. I was actually very surprised and delighted to find a freakin' palette in it. Seriously? What other subscription box has that?
Here is everything that was in the box. Color me impressed. The Coastal Scents palette alone, which is worth $40 (though I saw it online for $20), covers the cost of the whole box. The other products are just icing on the cake: a fun set of false eyelashes, a bright shade lip crayon, a retractable face brush, and the deluxe sample hairspray. I thought that this box was completely worth the $21.
Since the Coastal Scents Revealed Palette is frequently compared to the Naked 1 and 2 Palettes, I wanted to make sure to give you some swatches so you can see for yourself. I was really impressed with the quality of the shadows. I'm not sure I needed all 20 shades, but it is nice to have options! I also like that there is a mix of cool and warm tones.
As you can see, the colors in the palette are really nice. I'll definitely get some use out of this, since I don't actually own the Naked 1 palette and that blue/gray color is calling my name!
The lip crayon from Be a... Bombshell in the shade Some Beach is a really nice shimmery coral. While I don't think I'll get much use out of this now, I'll definitely pull this out in the spring/summer time.
The lashes, made by Lina Lashes, are really high quality. I'm not really a connoisseur of lashes, but these feel extremely soft and the band is really flexible. I'll definitely try these out next time I have a special occasion.
Overall, I'm really happy with the products I received in my BoxyCharm. I definitely think that the value is worth the $21/month price tag. If you are interested in trying out BoxyCharm, check it out here.
