Book Haul | May 2015
It's June 1st, which means I need to pay my rent, errr... I mean, time for my May book haul! This month was pretty tame, as I really did mean it when I said I wanted to chill on my book buying. I have a LOT of reading to catch up on from previous hauls, so the majority of my purchases were just for book clubs or series that I wanted to continue.
I picked up three more Brandon Sanderson books. As you all know, I loved the Mistborn Trilogy and so I was itching for more Sanderson in my near future. To continue with the Year of Cosmere readalong (Goodreads page here), I picked up Elantris (Sanderson's debut novel) and the novellas that accompany it, Legion and The Emperor's Soul. These were the May books for the readalong (which I failed miserably in reading, more to come in my wrap-up). Next, I bought Steelheart, one of the Impression Parade book club picks for June, which has to do with superheroes. The last book I read about superheroes was Vicious, which I loved, so I have high expectations for this book that combines superheroes and Sanderson's writing.
My only real impulse buy of the month was Midwinterblood. Though this purchased was heavily influenced by the cover (I mean, look at it. How could I not?), I also thought the premise sounded very creepy and exciting. It is a paranormal story where two lovers are trying to reunite after being brutality murdered on an secret island, where rumor has it, the people do not age and children are never born. It sounds really mysterious and dark, which is right up my alley.
With this, begins the buying of books in series that I'm currently in the middle of. I read Cinder at the beginning of May (review here), and before I even completed the book I knew I wanted to continue the series. I spent more money that I would have liked on Amazon, but I couldn't wait for Scarlet and Cress to show up on Book Outlet. I will be marathoning these as soon as I am ready for a break from (or finish) reading A Song of Ice and Fire.
Next, I had to complete my Leo Demidov trilogy with Agent 6, the last book in the series. I have finally read The Secret Speech and now I'm ready to start book #3 and see what happens to Leo and Raisa. My last purchase of the month was The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi, which of course I had to pick up after loving the Old Man's War (review here).
That's all for this month! Relatively tame compared to previous hauls, but still I have plenty to read! Let me know what you picked up this month and if you have read any of the books that I bought.
